At the
time, the public schools didn't provide a Kindergarten program
to children in East Windsor. Work and Play School was housed in
Mary Moore's home in Scantic. Eveline Hayes began working with
Mary Moore in 1965 and eventually took over and became owner and
Director of Work and Play School. She then built the first
Daycare Center in town, which is still located on Phelps Rd. Her
daughter, Betsy Hayes DeWolf, began working with her mom in 1974
while pursuing her degree in Early Childhood Education. Upon
Mrs. Hayes' retirement, Betsy became Director and co-owner,
expanding to an active school-age program, along with
developmentally appropriate Preschool, Pre-K, and Full-time Day
Care programs.
